CHINA HEAVY MACHINEY INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION ("CHMIA")　is a nation-wide trade organization engaged in the production, research and development, design, forming a complete set and education of such heavy machinery as metallurgical mangle machinery, mining machinery, lifting and　transportation machinery, heavy forging and pressing machinery, large casting and forging industry. It is a multi-area and multi-department national-wide mass organization with a judicial legal person status.

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, CHMIA takes it as its purpose to assert and maintain the interest of heavy machinery enterprises and industry and promote their continuous development, engage in various kinds of activities and work beneficial to their development, undertake all kinds of tasks entrusted by the Government according to the requirement of the macro economic control policy of the State organs, and put forward proposals to the Government according to the requirements of the enterprises so as to play the role of bridge and ties between the enterprises and the Government offices and promote the development of heavy machinery industry. Its chief tasks are to unite all relevant enterprises and organize their procurement of supplies, production and marketing on a voluntary basis, formulate relevant planning proposals, convey the situation of the heavy machinery industry to the Government, and put forward suggestions with respect to the relevant policies and regulations drafted by the Government and play the role of an assist and a staff officer of the Government.

CHMIA is subdivided into sub-associations of specialized industries and professional committees. CHMIA's administrative office is the Secretariat.

Since its establishment, CHMIA, entrusted by the Government, has done a lot of work including but not limited to formulating heavy industry planning and standards, promoting the technical progress of the industry, organizing cooperation and joint tackling of key and difficult technical problems among enterprises, regulating prices and asserting and maintaining the interest of heavy machinery enterprises and industry. It also organized national exhibitions (fairs) and international fairs of heavy machinery industry. In addition, it assisted relevant departments to hold exhibition outside China or help foreign enterprises to hold exhibitions in China. In this way, CHMIA helps enterprises to open and expand their market and have more marketing channels for foreign trade.
